NekoAI privacy policy
The short version
NekoAI has no account and no server of its own. Almost everything stays on your phone. When you use the AI features, what you say to the cat is sent to Anthropic, the AI provider, using your own API key. Nothing is sold, used for advertising, or shared with anyone else.
What stays on your phone
- Your conversation with the cat, the memories you let her keep, and the little notes she makes about what you like in small talk.
- Her hunger, thirst, bond and habits (what you like doing with her), her personality, and your settings.
- Your Anthropic API key, encrypted with Android's Keystore.
- A record of your AI usage, used to keep the usage limits. Copies of NekoAI installed outside Google Play also keep a tiny usage-limit file in Documents/NekoAI so a reinstall doesn't reset the limits; the Google Play version doesn't.
None of this is sent to Day Dream Corp.
What leaves your phone, and why
- To Anthropic, only when you use the AI chat or small talk: what you write or say to the cat, pictures you choose to show her, and the context she needs to answer (her personality, the time and season, your usage percentages, and the notes and memories above). This is sent with your own API key and handled under Anthropic's privacy policy.
- To Open-Meteo, only if you turn on Real weather: your approximate location, rounded to about 10 km, to get the current weather. See Open-Meteo's terms.
- Voice input is turned into text by your phone's own speech recognizer. NekoAI never records or sends audio itself.
Everything is sent over encrypted connections.
Children and Kid Mode
NekoAI is for teens and adults. Kid Mode is a tool for parents, set up on their own phone: it shows only the cat, her action bubbles and gentle cat small talk, with no chat, no settings and no links, and it can only be turned off with the parent's fingerprint or face. The notes the cat makes in Kid Mode never keep names, addresses, schools, phone numbers or other identifying details, are kept apart from the adult's, and can be read and deleted by the parent in Neko Nikki. If AI small talk is used in Kid Mode, what the child says is sent to Anthropic as described above.
Permissions
- Display over other apps, so the cat can live on your screen.
- Microphone, only while you talk to her by voice.
- Approximate location, only if you turn on Real weather.
- Notifications, for her companion notification and mini-app reminders.
- Fingerprint or face, to turn Kid Mode on and off (Android checks it; NekoAI never sees it).
- Copies installed outside Google Play may also use an accessibility service, which reads only the rectangles of other apps' buttons and cards (never their text) so she can walk on them.
Your choices
You can forget any memory or note in Neko Nikki, turn memory and Real weather off in Settings, remove your API key, or delete everything by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it.
